WCNY, Central New York's Public Broadcast Channel, Hires New President

The Central New York regions Public Broadcasting Station, WCNY, recently named a new president and CEO. Mitch Gelman took over the position on January 28th after serving as the chief technology officer for the now defunct Newseum in the Washington, D.C. area.

Gelman has been a journalist and media executive for over 30 years. In 1992, he won a Pulitzer Prize for his work at Newsday. He was a Vice President for media giant Gannett and has run websites for CNN and ESPN. Gelman takes over for Robert J. Daino who served as head of WCNY for 13 years.

WCNY, founded in 1965, runs five digital channels, including a cable-only station. Good luck to Mitch Gelman as he assumes a very important position in our local television community!
