The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is preparing for Halloween and it needs pumpkins! As an incentive for collecting pumpkins, the zoo will offer free admission to any child or youth, through the age of 17, free admission to the zoo if a pumpkin is brought to be donated to the zoo! The pumpkins should be 12 inches wide or larger, clean, uncarved, unmarked, and unpainted.
Zoo Director Ted Fox feels that this promotion will be a great way for families to participate in zoo activities. "We thought this would be a fun way to encourage families to participate in some zoo activities and help us care for the animals," Fox said.
Fox also said that the pumpkins will be used for the post-Halloween "Squishing of the Squash" where zookeepers give the pumpkins to to the animals for an enrichment event where the animals play, chase, squash, and eat the pumpkins! Sure sounds like they have some fun! So visit the zoo and donate a pumpkins! Your children and the animals will appreciate your generosity!
