The first rule of pumping your own gas is to make sure you remove the pump from your car’s gas tank! Evidently this driver from Hackensack, New Jersey didn’t realize that fact when he drove away while in the process of refueling his car.
The Hackensack Fire Department posted a security camera footage of the driver pulling away from the gas pump while the pump was still in the car’s tank. As you can guess, this act didn’t end well.
The gas pump broke away from the ground base and burst into flames. An attendant was able to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher once the emergency fuel cut-off switch was activated. The fire department said no one was injured in the mishap. Let’s hope the next time this guy refuels he will remove the pump from the car’s tank before driving off!
