I’m not quite sure what to make of the news item, but I’ll put it out there for everyone to think about. It appears that out-of-town college students are not voting by absentee ballot because...they don’t know how to obtain a stamp!
Lisa Connors, who works for the Fair County Office of Public Affairs in Fairfax County Virginia, said that out-of-state students are not completing the voting process because “they don’t know where to get stamps.” The students get the absentee ballot, fill it out, but don’t mail it in cause they have no stamp and are unaware of how to obtain one. “That seems to be like a hump that they can’t get across,” Connors said.
Like I said, this is an interesting news story. Of course they could use Google to locate a post office or they could go to usps.com and buy some stamps online. Not sure why this hasn’t occurred to any of these students, but there is still a little over a month before Election Day so let’s hope they figure it out by then!
