With the New York State Fair just a day away, you know that summer is winding down. Soon the kids will be back in school, football will be starting, baseball’s playoffs will begin, and....fall, followed by winter, will soon be here! So, what can we expect weather-wise in Central New York? Well, here are the predictions!
According to the Climate Prediction Center, Upstate New York can expect a warm fall with a warmer-than-normal winter! In fact, there is a 70 percent chance of a strong El Niño forming in the Pacific Ocean this winter, which is expected to bring warm temperatures to the continental United States through next summer! There is one little bit of bad news in the forecast: According to the Climate Center the Northeast has a better than average chance of a wetter than normal fall and winter. Ugh!
In 2015-2016, the strong El Niño pushed temperatures during the winter in Syracuse 5.3 degrees warmer with 44 fewer inches of snow than in a typical winter. We will soon see what happens. Let’s hope for a repeat of 2015-16!
