If you like craft beverages, New York State is the place to be! According to the Governor’s Office, and based on figures provided by the New York State Liquor Authority, there are now 1,005 craft beverage makers operating in the state. Craft beverage makers include breweries, wineries, distillers, and hard cideries. Additionally, more craft beverage makers are in the works.
Since October 2012, when Governor Andrew Cuomo hosted his “Beer, Wine, & Spirits Summit,” the total number of producers has doubled, and the number holding farm licenses has had grown by 150 percent. Farm licenses require producers to use New York State ingredients.
The Governor’s Office also reported that New York State is now Number 1 in the United States for the number of hard cideries, Number 2 for craft distillers, Number 3 for breweries, and Number 4 for wineries.
