Many of us are afraid of water. The proper term for this fear is “aquaphobia.” People will usually try to overcome this fear by taking swimming lessons or by just staying out of the water! Lucy is such a person. Lucy works out 3 days a week and incorporates 3 hours of pool time into her routine. However, Lucy never lets the water go over her shoulders due to her fear.
Recently, Lucy decided to ride down the water slide at the YMCA she belongs to in Temperance, Michigan. Her trainers, Ben and Taylor, convinced her to try and conquer her anxiety by riding down the corkscrew water slide. Lucy was apprehensive. Even Ben was a little nervous. Why all the concern? Well, Lucy is 93 years old!!
The good news is that Lucy conquered the water slide! With Ben at the bottom of the slide to catch her, Lucy climbed to the top of the tube and, a few seconds later, came out at the bottom. Furthermore, Lucy was ecstatic about her accomplishment. “I thought, ‘Why are you doing this, you silly old lady?’ But I’d do it again,” Lucy exclaimed. Good for Lucy! 93 years young!
