Historic Plaque That Was Lost Has Been Found!

A plaque that has been missing from a World War 1 statue in Billings Park at the intersections of S. Salina, S. Warren, and E. Adams Streets has been found!  The plaque honoring the men from the 38th Regiment who lost their lives at the Second Battle of the Marne in France, has been missing since 2016.

Local historian, David Haas, partnered with the City of Syracuse, Onondaga Historical Association, and Downtown Syracuse, in an attempt to locate the plaque in time for the Centennial Celebration in July. They succeeded!

Haas, who used an Instagram account, @SyracuseHistory, to update people on the status of the search, was contacted by a City of Syracuse employee saying that they saw the plaque in storage. Congratulations to all involved for their hard work in locating the plaque!
