The State of Rhode Island recently had a computer glitch that caused the Department of Revenue to bury its head in the sand. 176 corporate tax refund checks were sent out under the signatures of none other than Mickey Mouse and his creator, Walt Disney!
The famous signatures replaced the authorized signatures of either the General Treasurer, Seth Magaziner, or State Controller, Peter Keenan. The Department of Revenue was unable to explain the mixup other than to say it was a “technical glitch.”
The department did say that corrected checks would be issued to the recipients “within one week.” It would be interesting to know if any of the checks were actually presented to the bank for payment!
