Be Careful How You Handle Your Cellphone! They Could Be Dangerous!

In a very interesting study published in the medical journal, JAMA Otolaryngology, a Rutgers University plastic surgeon has found that since the inception of cellphones, there has been a spike in facial injuries. Dr. Boris Paskhover looked at 20 years of facial injuries and found that there has been an increase in injuries since 2006 when cellphones initially hit the market.

“Cellphone-related injuries to the head and neck have increased steeply over the recent 20-year period, with many cases resulting from distraction,” Paskhover said. Facial injuries numbered around 2,000 per year until 2006. However, between 1998 and 2017, injuries numbered 76,000. The numbers were collected from over 100 emergency rooms across America. One woman actually broke her nose when she dropped her cellphone on her nose!

Interestingly enough, some cellphone injuries occurred when someone got hit by one being thrown at them! 40 percent of those injuries happened to people between the ages of 13 to 29! Anyway, you should try not to walk and look at your cellphone at the same time. As Dr. Paskhover so simply put it, you “wouldn’t walk around reading a newspaper.” Nicely stated, Doctor!
