When October Books in Southampton, England was hit with a rent increase, the owners had no choice but to move to a different location 500 feet down the street. Strapped for cash, the owners used a crowd funding campaign and some loans to purchase a new building.
The store contained thousands of books that had to be moved. So in a show of community support, over 200 volunteers formed a human chain to hand transport the books to the new location. Little-by-little, all the books were finally moved to the new store.
“There’s been people who’ve been visiting us and buying books fro us for 40 years,” said employee Amy Brown. “So a lot of people feel quite invested in it as a thing,” she said. Congratulations on a job well done!
