A Wedding Took Place At A Marathon In Detroit? Yes It Did!

This past weekend, thousands of runners converged in Detroit, Michigan to run in the 26.2 mile Detroit Free Press Marathon. Nothing too unusual about that, right? Well one couple took a break at the halfway point to do something special: they got married!

Whitney Black, wearing a veil as part of her running clothes, and Steven Phillips, wearing a mock tuxedo t-shirt, took a ten minute break after 13 miles to exchange vows. The couple kept the wedding ceremony short so their muscles wouldn’t get cold in the frigid weather.

Black was running her first marathon after taking up running in 2017. She had struggled back from a snowmobile accident that required 20 surgeries and physical therapy to relearn how to walk. Phillips was running in his 14th marathon. They couple finished the race after the ceremony.  Best of luck to this amazing couple!
