We have a new number 1! The legendary band, The Eagles, have overtaken the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, for the best selling album of all time in the United States. The Eagles’ “Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975,” released in 1976, has taken over the number one spot from Jackson’s 1982 album, “Thriller.”
“Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975," has been certified 38x platinum in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). “Thriller” has been certified 33x platinum by the RIAA for second place. Ironically, the Eagles’ “Hotel California,” released in 1977, has been certified 26x platinum for third place.
Eagles founding member, Don Henley, said the band is grateful for “the loyal fans who have stuck with us through the ups and downs of 46 years.” Founding Eagles member, Glenn Frey, passed away in 2016, but the band continues to perform. Jackson passed away in 2009. No matter what genre of music you may like, both albums are classics in the music industry!
