The Iconic Movie "Animal House" is Forty Years Old

Forty years ago, director John Landis, with only a budget of $2 million, spent 32 days with a bunch of relatively unknown actors and created an iconic movie that has become known as one of the best comedy motion pictures ever made. The movie was called “Animal House.” The film, an instant hit with the public, grossed over $141 million which was a record at the time.

With Donald Sutherland as the only established star, the movie went on to make some relatively unknown actors famous. Notable actors who gained fame from staring in the movie were Tim Matheson, Kevin Bacon, Karen Allen, Tom Hulce, and the late John Belushi, who stole the show with his portrayal of Bluto! Incredibly, filming,  which took place at the University of Oregon in Eugene, was completed in 32 days!

While the toga party remains one of the famous scenes in the movie, the iconic food fight, which only lasts for 3 seconds, is remembered as a classic! Lines such as “seven years of college down the drain,” and “Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life,” are still remembered to this day. All in all, “Animal House” has stood the test of time. If you haven’t seen it, make a point of seeing it. If you have seen it, watch it again and appreciate the comedic genius of the movie!
