Berkley the bear got his ice cream, but the Park got fined! Discovery Wildlife Park in Alberta, Canada had an employee drive Berkley to a local Dairy Queen to get him an ice cream. A video of the event showed Berkley eating his treat out of the hand of the Dairy Queen employee. Nice story right? Wrong!
It appears that Park owners, Doug Bos and Debbie Rowland, forgot to notify local government officials of the trip, thus violating a section of the Canadian Wildlife Act! Furthermore, the public is not to have contact with any animal removed from the Park. A double “oops” on the Park’s part!
The owners of the Park mentioned that this was the first time in 28 years that they forgot to follow protocol. However, to their credit, they will “pay our fine” and have made changes to their protocol to ensure that “these notifications are done every time without fail.” I’m sure all Berkley cared about was getting his delicious treat!
