I-81 Ramp Closure in Syracuse for Construction

The on-ramp from Sunset Avenue to northbound Interstate 81 in Syracuse, New York, will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Friday (February 7). This closure is part of the ongoing I-81 Viaduct Project, which involves the removal of the Bear Street bridge abutment and retaining walls. According to the New York State Department of Transportation, motorists should follow the signed detours directing traffic north on Sunset Avenue, east on Bear Street, and north on Lodi Street to access I-81 northbound.

The construction activities are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions. Motorists are advised to use caution and pay attention to traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers. As part of the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, fines are doubled for speeding in work zones, and multiple violations could lead to the suspension of a driver's license.

The I-81 Viaduct Project is a significant infrastructure effort aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in the area. For the latest traffic updates, visit 511ny.org.
