Get ready for National Hot Dog Day! Friday, July 17th is National Hot Dog Day! Yes, it is a day to celebrate the food that is a staple of just about every summertime cook out. The hot dog also goes by the name of wiener, franks, or frankfurters, and has been around since the late 1800’s!
The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council estimates that Americans eat about 20 billion hot dogs a year! The Council created the day in 1991 to coincide with the Annual Capitol Hill Hot Dog Lunch which falls every year on July 17th.
So get out your grills, throw some franks over the coals, and smother your hot dog on the bun with ketchup, mustard, onions, and relish and enjoy!
