Tom Hanks is officially 2020’s new favorite meme. The legendary actor, who was awarded with the Cecil B. DeMille award for his outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment, was caught on the live Golden Globes telecast on Sunday, January 6, reacting to host Ricky Gervais’ opening monologue.
Gervais, who served as host for the fifth and reportedly final time, took a shot at pretty much everyone and everything during his opening monologue, in which he was bleeped twice. From prison jabs at Felicity Huffman to #MeToo jokes, the comedian didn’t hold back and prefaced he didn’t care who he offended with his harsh humor.
“Do you guys think Tom Hanks is enjoying the show? #GoldenGlobes,” one viewer tweeted, along with a screenshot of Hanks looking seriously dismayed. “Tom Hanks is most of us right now. #GoldenGlobes #goldenglobes2020,” another added.
The Oscar-winning actor also made headlines at the awards show for his emotional speech while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille award. While acknowledging his family and loved ones, the actor got choked up.
“It’s the cold that’s making this happen,” Hanks said while holding back tears onstage. “I swear to God I’m not nearly this emotional at home.”
