Kaitlyn Figueroa Lopez is a 13 year-old autistic child. She is non-verbal and has not spoken a word in her entire 13 years. In fact, doctors told her mother, Marisabel, that her daughter would probably never speak a word in her entire life. That is until this Christmas season!
Every year, Marisabel takes Kaitlyn to see the annual Don Weaver Christmas lighting. It's a spectacular 200,000 light display synchronized to Christmas music. Kaitlyn has never uttered a word during the show until this year! As they were watching the lights dancing to the music, Kaitlyn suddenly stood up and yelled, "Santa! Santa is coming!" It was a Christmas miracle for Marisabel and her family!
Marisabel, is hoping that this is just the beginning of a more verbal Kaitlyn. "To hear her speak, it just gives me hope," she said. "Today it's 2 to 3 words, tomorrow it could be a sentence. A year from now it could be a whole conversation." Let's hope this is just the beginning for Kaitlyn, Marisabel, and her whole family!
