How To Keep Your Best Friend Calm During The July 4th Fireworks!

With Fourth of July coming up tomorrow, many Central New Yorkers will be enjoying firework displays across the area. However, one member of your family may not enjoy the noise associated with the fireworks: your dog!

Dogs can easily get anxious when the loud booms of the fireworks begin to sound. In fact, the fireworks phobia is quite common among dogs and can develop at any time during their life. So what precautions can you take to help your dog with her fear of fireworks?

According to Dr. Meghan Herron, a veterinary behaviorist, try to find a safe haven for your dog during the festivities. A room that’s fun, engaging, safe, and as soundproof as possible is an ideal spot for your best friend. She also suggest getting as much exercise as possible during the day so that your pet will be ready for a good night’s rest when the fireworks start. Enjoy the fireworks but make sure your pet is happy too!
