Are Reel-To-Reel Tape Decks Poised To Make A Comeback?

It’s truly amazing that old recording formats are starting to make a comeback! Vinyl records and cassettes have made inroads over the last few years, and now there’s whispers of the revival of the old reel-to-reel tape decks making a potential comeback too!

Reel-to-reel tape was always the first choice of artists in recording studios. In fact, singers such as Lady Gaga and Jack White still use the technology today. Audiophiles like the sound quality and stereo effect that reel-to-reel decks produce.

A German company called Ballfinger now produces 4 models of these tape decks. However, the average cost is about $12,000! Audiophiles can still find these tape decks and, believe it or not, actual tape recordings on eBay and Reverb but they require meticulous care. However, it does seem strange sometimes to think that old technology that we thought was long relegated to history can, at times, come back into vogue.
