Music has always been a way for people to reconnect with events in their lives. A song can bring back memories of a person, place, or thing that was important or special to some individual. That’s the idea behind the “Music Memory Box.”
The Box was created as a way to use photographs, objects, and music to help patients with dementia to remember their past. When certain objects or photographs are displayed, the Box will play a song that is associated with the item being shown.
Chloe Meineck, the 28 year old designer of the Box, first created one to help her great grandmother. The results were seen when the elderly woman began to recall past events when the Box was used. Meineck’s device has help many patients and, after experimenting with various prototypes, has finally finished her design and is beginning to ship out her first pre-order of Music Memory Boxes. Here’s hoping that they make someone’s darkest days a little more brighter!
