Lacrosse may not be the only casualty of Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome roof replacement in 2020. It appears that the Class of 2020 may be looking at another venue to hold its commencement ceremonies.
The lacrosse programs may have to play outdoors next spring and the graduation ceremonies may be forced to do so also. The possibility was presented to the Syracuse University Senate by Chancellor Kent Syverud on Wednesday.
This would be the first time that the graduation ceremonies would not be held in the Carrier Dome since it opened in September, 1980. The 1981 ceremony had United States Secretary of State Alexander Haig as its keynote speaker. At this time, no decision has been made on the location of the 2020 Commencement. A timetable for the roof replacement is suppose to be ready by some time in the fall of this year.
