The History Behind The "First Thanksgiving"

Thanksgiving is a day where we gather with family and friends and give thanks for all our blessings. We sit down to a meal which consists of a turkey with all of its trimmings and other delicious foods according to your family’s traditions.

But how did the Pilgrims celebrate the “First Thanksgiving?” The timing of the actual celebration is unknown, but historians agree that it was after the first harvest in October, 1621, most probably between September 21st and November 11. The feast lasted three days and was attended by 53 Pilgrims and 90 Native Americans.

According to tradition, the feast included venison, waterfowl, ham, lobster, berries, fruit, squash, and pumpkin. It’s a little different from today’s traditional Thanksgiving meal, but still sounds delicious. However, no matter what’s on your menu, have a Happy Thanksgiving!
