Going apple picking soon? Well you will be pleasantly surprised to find this year’s crop of apples will be bigger and brighter than in the past. This is according to Cornell University experts who say that the weather played a large role in how the apples turned out this year.
Susan Brown, a horticultural professor and apple breeder from Cornell, said that the rainy start to our summer season helped the apples to be bigger this year while the recent cooler nights helped with the color and quality of the apples.
According to professor Kerik Cox, The excess rain usually means that fungal disease can cause problems for the apple crop, but the strategic use of fungicides kept the apples safe. The bottom line, according to Susan Brown, is that “2019 should be an excellent year for apple quality.” Sounds good to me
