Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox called in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Friday morning to talk about her popular Netflix series … and let’s not forget that Emmy nomination.

“That is insane, right? I’m like a black transgender woman from Mobile, Alabama, raised by a single mother nominated for an Emmy … I can’t even believe it.”

And when Laverne called her mother to tell her the good news about her nomination, there was another big life moment she wanted to know about just a little more.

“I had went to the White House for the Pride reception at the end of June and my mother just kind of wanted to talk about me meeting the president,” the actress jokes. “So my mom was so excited about the Emmy nomination and very proud of me, but she kind of just wanted to know about the White House and Obama … so my mom put it all in perspective for me. But this is the happiest thing. I’ve never been happier in my entire life.”

Season 2 of Orange Is the New Black is available to view on Netflix now!
