A bill aimed at tougher penalties for those who sell and use "bath salt" - type drugs was signed into law.

The new law adds new compounds to the state's Schedule One stimulant controlled substances, and prescribes criminal penalties for those who sell, use and possess bath salt-style drugs. The law also makes it a felony to sell the drug to children or on school grounds. Senator Joe Griffo of Rome, who sponsored the bill, says it addresses a recent danger of dealers passing off bath salts as "Molly" or pure Ecstasy. The Senate passed the bill unanimously in June.
