The president of the teachers union in Ithaca has been arrested for stealing thousands of dollars from the union till.

Ithaca police say they've arrested 52 year old Laureen Hamilton on one charge of Third Degree Grand Larceny.

The cops got a tip from the union that money was missing from thier accounts. They hauled in Hamilton for questioning, she's the president of the union. The police say she admitted to making numerous unauthorized transactions and ended up allegedly looting the till to the tune of seven thousand dollars.

Hamilton was booked on the grand larceny charge and later released on her own recognizance.
