The City of Syracuse is getting smart about parking - smartphone, that is.
Mayor Stephanie Miner announced that parking in downtown's Armory Square is now available via a new app called Whoosh! that will let you pay for parking directly from your smartphone. The app will register one or more vehicle license numbers and a credit card for parking payment. From there, it's a simple matter of choosing the vehicle and amount of time to park. Whoosh! will charge the parking cost and a 35 cent convenience fee to the credit card on record. The user will get a notification when the parking time is about to expire, and provide an opportunity to extend the parking time if necessary.
Miner says Whoosh! representatives in bright pink shirts will be in Armory Square in the coming weeks to provide help with using the app. Whoosh! will initially be available there, but will later be expanded throughout Downtown Syracuse and in the University Hill area.
