Senator Chuck Schumer says national grocery store chain Whole Foods will visit Syracuse to consider whether to develop a location in downtown's Armory Square.

Schumer says there's no nearby grocery for the growing population of downtown residents.  There are an estimated 3,000 people living in downtown Syracuse, and that number is expected to grow.

Schumer cautioned that the Whole Foods visit is not a commitment from them to open a Syracuse location.  He says he plans to speak with Tops and Fresh Markets as well. Whole Foods operates 365 locations across the US.
