State senator Patty Ritchie says she has secured $148,000 in special funding for libraries in the three counties in her district.
Ritchie says the money will be used by the libraries largely for technology - buying or upgrading computers and purchasing E-books. Ritchie says in some of her district's more remote locations, internet access is limited or not available, and some cannot afford the cost. She says many of her constituents say libraries are essential to them in researching job opportunities using the Internet.
Richie says she also was able to keep statewide funding of libraries from being cut, and helped to add an additional million dollars to the budget for the state's 7,000 libraries.
