A ban on smoking in public parks will be considered by the Syracuse Common Council.

Common Councilors Kalid Bey and Bob Dougherty say they will propose the ban in city parks as well as public areas managed by the Parks Department, including Clinton Square and Columbus Circle.  The fine for violation would be $50.  They say the legislation will be proposed next week, and the council could vote on it as early as June 9.  Dougherty and Bey says they also plan to amend the city's litter ordinance to include cigarette butts and cigarette packaging.
