President Obama has nominated former Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle to a position on the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Buerkle would be one of at least 3 commissioners who oversee the independent federal agency with an annual budget of $115 million. It's unclear whether Buerkle is replacing an existing Republican commissioner or filling an open seat. If she is taking the spot occupied by Commissioner Nancy Nord, that term would expire in October.
A spokesman for the commission says the commissioners are paid full-time salaries and are expected to attend regular meetings at their headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland.
