A Central New York head shop owner, who's already pleaded guilty to federal criminal charges, is now facing news charges by the Attorney General.
34 year old John Tebbetts of Rome has been charged with grand Larceny and Criminal Tax Fraud after Attorney General Eric Schneiderman claims that Tebbetts stole more than 50 thousand dollars from the state by failing to pass along taxes that had been collected. If convicted of the charges, he could face an additional 5 to 15 years in prison.
Schneiderman says his office and other agencies have conducted a three year investigation that included extensive interviews, and site inspections of "Tebb's Head Shops" in Central New York.
The state claims Tebbett's pocketed tax receipts from such items as herbal incense, hookahs and pipes.
Tebbetts has already pleaded guilty to selling illegal sythetic marijuana and other substances at his stores in throughout central and northern New York. He pleaded guilty late last year to those charges and is now awaiting sentencing.
