A motorcyclist is in serious condition after a collision with a vintage car in the Syracuse Nationals that police called "an unauthorized speed contest."

Camillus police say Richard Golley was driving a 1974 Chevy Nova when he began to race with the motorcycle, driven by Jamie Murray.  The two collided on Route 5 east of the Hinsdale exit.  Murray was taken to the hospital and is in serious condition.  Police say criminal and traffic charges are pending.

Golley claims the two weren't speeding, and that the crash was caused because his steering failed.  Golley's 11-year-old son was with him at the time of the crash.
