A close call late Monday afternoon for patients aboard a medical transport van in Syracuse and a teenager inside a city home.

Syracuse police say the 66 year old driver of a Speedy Medical Transport van claims she lost her brakes coming down a steep hill on the turnpike and was forced to veer onto several front lawns before striking a house at 557 West Seneca Turnpike.

The van was transporting two female passengers who were taken to Upstate Hospital as a precautionary measure. An 18 year old male inside the house that was struck was also taken to the hospital as a precaution and there were no serious injuries reported.

Syracuse Police say they are now taking a look at the brakes on the van to see if they failed. The van sustained substantial damage and so did the house that was hit. The home though was deemed structurally sound.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and the driver of the van has not been ticketed.
