The future of a new sports arena to ultimately replace the Carrier Dome is murky after Syracuse mayor Stephanie Miner did not share other leaders' enthusiasm for the proposal.

County executive Joanie Mahoney told 570 WSYR's Joe Galuski this morning that an idea for the project developed after conversations with interested parties from SU Athletic Director Daryl Gross to Governor Andrew Cuomo. The county executive says the project is envisioned as a neighborhood revitalization project where the Kennedy Square apartments once stood. It would include retail stores and a hotel.

Mahoney says that a number of sources for financing the $500 million proposal would be used, but said no money would have to come from the city OS Syracuse. She also said she wasn't interested in moving forward with it if Mayor Miner was not on board.
