Republicans in the 24th Congressional District have chosen former federal prosecutor John Katko as their candidate to face incumbent Dan Maffei in November.

Katko was the party's favorite out of eight candidates all vying for the nod.  Among the other hopefuls was former Syracuse Common Councilor Rick Guy and retired Army Colonel John Lemondes.  There's no indication as yet whether any of the unsuccessful candidates will start a petition drive to force a primary election.
