Another four hotels are planned for Dewitt's Carrier Circle area.

They would join an existing 20 hotels in the area, where occupancy is up and Onondaga County collected 11 percent more hotel room taxes last year than it did in 2007. According to Eric Holder with the Syracuse Convention and Visitor's Bureau, a Hampton Inn and a Fairfield Inn will be going up in the neighborhood within 300 feet of each other. The two others - a La Quinta Inn and a Homewood Suites - are still working with Dewitt planners. There is also a potential fifth hotel for Collamer Road, but town director of planning and zoning James Conlon says there's no official proposal as yet.

Holder says the appeal of Destiny USA drawing visitors from Canada is certainly a factor, as well as an increase in group and corporate travel.
