A local charitable foundation has donated $5,000 to the town of Smithfield to aid in cleanup after the deadly tornado that hit the Madison County community July 8.

The Central New York Foundation says they were moved by the loss of life in Smithfield and the extent of the destruction.  Four people were killed and four homes were completely destroyed.  Officials say the money actually comes from the Ralph Myron Sayer and Sophrona Davis Sayer Endowment Fund, which the foundation manages. They were long-time residents of Madison County, and wanted to benefit efforts of non-profit organizations in Madison County.
